Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 appears in new Benchmark ahead of its launch

In a month, Qualcomm is anticipated to unveil the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Prior to the official announcement, it is common to see the incoming chipset benchmarked on several platforms as phone partners must quickly evaluate the silicon before release. This time, the ROG Phone 8 Ultimate from ASUS was found on Geekbench 6, and even though the gaming smartphone probably boasts a robust cooling system, the A17 Pro continues to keep the top rank despite allegedly experiencing thermal throttling concerns.

The ROG Phone 8 Ultimate was tested using 16GB of RAM and received single-core and multi-core scores of 2,213 and 7,048, respectively, in a leaked Geekbench 6 results set that was discovered by 91mobiles. Remember that the ROG gaming handset lineup from ASUS is renowned for being thicker than the competition due to the use of an incredibly sizable vapor chamber, enabling the chipsets to perform at their peak.

Even so, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 cannot defeat the A17 Pro, while it does close the multi-core performance gap with the latter.

In a previous leak, we revealed that the A17 Pro scored 2,914 and 7,199 points in Geekbench 6, respectively, while throttling due to an insufficient cooling solution employed on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Only when employing an external cooling fan can Apple’s latest proprietary SoC work without being thermally limited, with one test revealing that multi-core scores increased significantly using this testing methodology. However, even when forced to cut its performance target, Apple’s A17 Pro is approximately 32% quicker than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in single-core results.

utilizing an external cooling fan is the only way Apple’s newest custom SoC can operate without being thermally limited; one test revealed that multi-core scores climbed significantly utilizing this testing methodology. Though forced to lower its performance target, Apple’s A17 Pro still outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in single-core results by almost 32%.

It will be interesting to see how this variant compares to the regular one in the same test since Qualcomm is anticipated to release an exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, which is reserved for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S24 family.
