In the ever-evolving landscape of mobile technology, Qualcomm is set to unleash a powerhouse with its upcoming Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 SoC, signaling a new era in mobile performance. Contrary to expectations, the 7 Gen 3 is not the direct successor to the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2; instead, Qualcomm has a dedicated upgrade in the works, promising even greater feats in processing power and efficiency.
The Upcoming Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3’s predecessor, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2, was officially unveiled on November 17, marking a significant leap in mid-range 5G mobile platforms. Boasting peak CPU speeds of 2.63GHz, the 7 Gen 3 introduces new on-device AI-based advancements, promising a substantial improvement over its forerunner. Qualcomm claims a remarkable 50 percent faster GPU performance and a staggering 60 percent improvement in AI performance compared to the Gen 2.
Based on TSMC’s cutting-edge 4nm process technology, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 follows a 1+3+4 architecture, delivering not only enhanced performance but also a 20 percent increase in power efficiency. The part number SM7550-AB is set to become synonymous with a new breed of smartphones, as major players in the industry, including Honor and Vivo, have confirmed their upcoming devices will house this formidable chipset.
One of the key highlights of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is its Quick Charge 5 technology, which Qualcomm claims can charge the battery from zero to 50 percent in just five minutes. The Kryo CPU, featuring a prime core clocked at 2.63GHz, three performance cores at 2.4GHz, and four efficiency cores at 1.8GHz, promises a seamless and powerful user experience. The chipset also introduces select Snapdragon Elite Gaming features such as Qualcomm Game Quick Touch and Adreno HDR Fast Blend.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 supports up to 4K resolution displays at a 60Hz refresh rate or WFHD+ resolution at an impressive 168Hz. The Qualcomm Spectra triple ISP can handle up to 200-megapixel main camera modules and record 4K HDR video at 60Hz. With capabilities like simultaneous capture from three lenses and advanced imaging, features like AI Remosaic and AI Video Retouch, the Gen 3 is set to redefine mobile photography and videography.
Connectivity is not an afterthought with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, which includes a Snapdragon X63 5G Modem-RF system supporting dual SIM dual active (DSDA) 5G and 4G. Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 ensures Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. The Hexagon NPU, support for OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.3, OpenCL 2.0 FP APIs, and triple frequency (L1/L5/L2) support in the GNSS antenna further solidify its position as a complete package for mobile devices.
