After 2 years, Qualcomm Technologies Inc. has finally announced the successor of Snapdragon 675 SoC. Snapdragon 678 SoC has been launched by the company. This new SoC will bring advanced mobile capabilities by offering lighting speed, long-lasting battery life, and reliable connections to the users. Without sacrificing the battery life, the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 will focus on improving the photography experience, sophisticated video capture, and high-speed connectivity. All in all, this launch aims to offer customers immersive entertainment experiences.
Specifically, Snapdragon 678 offers two performance enhancements over Snapdragon 675:
- Qualcomm® Kryo™ 460 CPU core clock speed up to 2.2GHz
- Qualcomm® Adreno™ 612 GPU performance increase
Snapdragon 675 used to clock speed up to 2.0GHz but Snapdragon 678, which is an Octa-Core CPU built on the 11nm LLP process, offers a minute improvement in the speed. Also, the GPU on 678 is the same as 675 but the company claims that there is a performance increase in the new SoC.
The 678 SoC comes with the X12 4G LTE modem from the company. It can touch download speeds up to 600 Mbps and upload speeds up to 150 Mbps. It supports a display up to FHD+. The maximum resolution is 2520×1080 pixels with a 10-bit colour depth.
Snapdragon 678 allows users to capture HD 4K video with multiple features like 5x optical zoom, slo-mo recording, and portrait mode. It has a 14-bit Qualcomm Spectra™ 250L ISP. This supports a single camera up to 192MP. A single/ double camera with (Multiple Frame Noise reduction) can be supported up to 25/16MP respectively. Also, the new SoC allows Dual-SIM VoLTE and 3x20MHz downlink carrier aggregation. Other features of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 678 are Qualcomm® aptX™, 8GB DDR4 RAM at 1866MHz, aptX™ HD audio, audio playback up to 4W, AVC codec support, and more. Two supports for the ports are available: USB-C with USB-3.1 support.
