Two of the biggest chipmakers in the world, Qualcomm and Samsung, are ready to delve more in the technology domain to gather more market share in the SoC sector. Both of them announce their latest 5nm chipsets last year. This year we are bound to see a huge influx of smartphones with the latest chipsets of these two brands.

Last month, Qualcomm announced that their latest chip Snapdragon 888 will soon launch and a few days back Xiaomi Mi 11 became the first smartphone in the world which was powered by this Snapdragon 888 SoC. The smartphone has gathered a lot of attention and Qualcomm’s new SoC is one of the main reason behind all the talks.

Similarly, Samsung launched the Exynos 1080 which was manufactured using the 5nm process. It debuted with the newly launched Vivo X60 smartphone series. Samsung Galaxy S21 will come with both Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 in select markets

It is believed that Exynos 2100 could hit the market with Galaxy S21 which is Samsung’s next-generation flagship smartphone. This new flagship smartphone is expected to debut on 14th January 2021. The recent urgency showed by Qualcomm and Samsung tells us that they want to step up in the chipset market. Especially, when their competitor Huawei is facing a huge challenge from the US government.

Donald Trump-ruled US government imposed many sanctions on the Chinese company. As Huawei is struggling, Samsung has taken a step ahead and allowed other smartphone companies to use their chipsets. Earlier, their chipsets only used to power Samsung devices. In the third quarter of 2020, Mediatek held the largest market share with 31%. On the second and third spot, it was Qualcomm and Huawei HiSilicon with 29% and 13% market share. The fourth and fifth position was occupied by Samsung and Apple with 12% market share.
