After a contest that lasted 53 minutes, PV Sindhu won her second Olympics medal, bagging the bronze for India at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She defeated He BingJiao 21-13, 21-15 in a match where she never lost the pole position.

This is India’s third medal in the Games, following the success of Mirabai Chanu in weightlifting and Lovlina Borgohain in boxing. PV Sindhu is now the fourth badminton player in history to secure two Olympics medals, with her previous one coming in the Rio Olympics where she earned a silver medal.

“It makes me feel really happy because I’ve worked hard for so many years. I had a lot of emotions going through me – should I be happy that I won bronze or sad that I lost the opportunity to play in the final?” the 26-year-old badminton great said after the match.

Her post match comments show her elite mentality, and proves that she is always set to be the best in her field. Having won the Badminton World Championship as well, she is undoubtedly one of the greatest Indian athletes of all time. Sindhu came up short against Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu-Ying in the semi-finals, with her opponent winning 21-18, 21-12 to march on to the finals, while the Indian made the most of the opportunity and earned a much-deserved accolade.
