PSV sign Mario Gotze on a free transfer

While the transfer window might have shut down on Monday, there is still room for clubs to sign new players in the form of free agents, who currently don’t play for any club.

Due to the reason stated above, Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven have managed to sign former Dortmund and Bayern star Mario Gotze on a free transfer. The World Cup winner has signed a two-year deal with the club.

The German attacking midfielder will wear the number 27 as he begins his career in the Netherlands at 28 years of age. While the player is still technically in the peak years of his career as a footballer, his performances at the pitch have not been phenomenal consistently.

In fact, the German never managed to build up on his historic goal in the 2014 World Cup Final against Argentina to lead his country to the most valuable prize in the game.

Since then, Gotze has played for both teams that compete in Der Klassiker and has had his tenure at both clubs plagued by injuries that hindered his progress.

His contract with Dortmund was not renewed due to his extremely high wage demands.

While there is no quoted number on how much PSV are offering Gotze, there is no way the Dutch club can offer him €10 million a year. That is something even a European giant like Dortmund could not give him.

Though he wasn’t able to make a splash in club football, Gotze is still a talented player. And if he manages to stay fit, he could easily become a star in the Dutch league.

PSV are one of the biggest clubs in the league and are once again in the race to beat Ajax to the Eredivisie title, especially after the league was abandoned last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
