PSG update on Messi pursuit and Mbappe contract situation

PSG are in direct contact with Lionel Messi’s father, Jorge Messi, and are in pole position to complete the signing of the most valuable free agent in the history of football.

Chelsea and Manchester City are rumoured to be interested as well in the Argentinian, but a move to Paris looks almost set because of the numerous variables. Mauricio Pochettino, Messi’s compatriot, is already at the club alongside his friends, Neymar and Angel Di Maria.

Paris Saint-Germain are confident to find the right ‘deal structure’ soon to sign Leo Messi after opening direct talks since yesterday. PSG are already working on Leo’s potential contract. 🇦🇷🚨 #Messi

The sporting project at the club is a highly lucrative one, especially since PSG have completed the signing of so many free agents this season. However, despite them being one of the only clubs in the continent to be able to offer Messi his demanded salary, the club are in a net debt of €200 million.

As a result, they have put several players on the transfer list to help recuperate funds. Keeping Mbappe and Messi in the same lineup will be something dreams are made of, but it will be very difficult due to the financial situation of the club, already having so many high-wage earners. In addition, none of them want to leave due to their secure positions within the club. Hence, PSG will have to make a few tough calls if they want Messi.

The only realistic option for them might be to sell Mbappe this summer to gain some funds since he is reluctant to extend his contract with the club, and only has a year remaining.
