PSG extend their revenge tour in the UCL, knocking out Bayern Munich

Paris Saint-Germain managed to extract revenge for their final defeat in last season’s Champions League against Bayern Munich, knocking them out in this year’s quarter finals. The Parisians headed in with a 3-2 advantage, and lost the second leg 0-1, but progressed into the last four on the away goals rule.

Bayern Munich, most importantly, were without their best player in Robert Lewandowski who has been ruled out with an injury and was dearly missed across both legs. Considering the plethora of chances created, the Bavarians could have used their marksman to score the much needed goals.

But despite the absence of their starting number 9, Eric Maxim Chuopo-Moting scored for the second time against his former club, PSG. However, it wasn’t enough to carry the Bavarians through.

Chuopo-Moting gave Bayern the lead five minutes before half time to give the Parisians something to be concerned about. But they held on in the second half, though not managing to score any goals for themselves, and will now face either of Borussia Dortmund or Manchester City in the semi finals.

Hansi Flick has refrained from committing to a future at Bayern Munich, with relations with the club officials becoming strained according to reports coming out of Germany. The only trophy that Bayern can possibly retain this season after winning the sextuple in 19-20 is the Bundesliga shield, which will not come easy considering Leipzig are at their throats in the table.

Considering that PSG have extracted their revenge against Bayern this season, they could go on to win the damn thing at last. Mauricio Pochettino went on to the finals with Spurs, and so did PSG themselves last year, and it could finally be their year to end their 50-year drought for European silverware.
