Many fans were surprised when Barcelona paid a sum in excess of €120 million for Antoine Griezmann a few years ago. The Spanish giants are now open to getting rid of him after he ‘hasn’t been able to perform to his best’ for the Blaugrana.
Despite the heavy criticism that has been thrown the way of the player, he has scored 12 goals and provided 7 assists in the league this season. His contributions in the Copa del Rey were also instrumental in Barcelona winning the trophy this season, with 3 goals and 4 assists in the 6 games played.
Atletico Madrid and PSG have been touted as the potential destinations for the player. However, while Atletico Madrid still appreciates their former player, and they still hope to get him back someday, the president of the club, Enrique Cerezo said that Barcelona apparently doesn’t want to sell him. That stance is false.
Additionally, a swap deal for João Felix and Griezmann is impossible given the age difference between them, the massive wages of the Frenchman and the fact that Felix is ‘untouchable’ in terms of transfers.
Griezmann isn’t interested in a transfer to PSG, and it looks very unlikely that the Parisians will end up trying to bring him back to France either. Barcelona will only let go of the forward if a suitable bid arrives. But it looks unlikely that anybody would be willing to cough up a big amount for the player right now.
