PS5 beta firmware version now allows storage expansion

Since the launch in November 2020, Sony PlayStation 5 is the hotcake in the tech world, in fact, still now. The demand and supply is one thing; the storage expansion adds on top. Some earlier reports informed that the feature to expand the storage of PS5 would be available sometime in summer. But if you need it now, there is a way. Yes, you can expand the storage of your PS5 with a locally purchased NVMe SSD.

Thanks to the new PS5 firmware beta version. If you are not a part of the PS5 beta program already, you can join following the Sony official website‘s instructions. And there are some steps to follow to add your SSD; otherwise, that hardware will not be recognised. Users with the stable version may have to wait more for this feature.

Here's how Twitter reacts to Sony PlayStation 5's India availability

Next, there are some properties an external SSD should have to get blend with the PS5 system. Sony already laid out those, and you can check the entire list from here. Some of the points to check include sequential read speed of 5,500MB/s, PCIe Gen 4 x4 compatibility, and capacities from 250GB to 4TB. The M.2 SATA SSD will not work in this case.

To install your hardware, you can refer to any of the PS5 teardown videos on YouTube or Sony’s official video.
