The film is based on the 2021 novel of the same name by [Andy Weir](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Weir) , the same mind behind *The Martian*. Weir has never written a sequel for any of his novels — but given how spectacularly this one has performed, insiders believe this could be his first time doing so.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sequel talks are already underway behind closed doors. Neither Amazon MGM nor Weir has officially confirmed anything — but the momentum speaks for itself.

## Box Office Numbers That Demand a Sequel

In India, the film opened to ₹3 crore on day one — modest, but promising — especially while competing for screens against the juggernaut [Dhurandhar 2](https://technosports.co.in).
