The match was between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings. If you needed to pick someone who could have been the surprise factor for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Chennai Super Kings in this match, you would have surely gone for David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Kane Williamson & Manish Pandey. But IPL always gifts us some future stars and some unnoticed gems. In this match, it was Priyam Garg. He played a blistering knock of 50 runs in just 23 balls.
India’s Under 19 captain Priyam Garg and 20-year-old Abhishek Sharma made a 77 runs partnership in just 7 overs which is the lowest combined age for 50 runs stand in the IPL History.
The 19-year-old youngster from Uttar Pradesh was born in a very poor family. His father is a milk seller. But he has defied all odds and has shown the whole world his immense talent.
In an interview, Priyam said, “We couldn’t afford a television at home, so I used to skip studies to watch Sachin Tendulkar at a nearby ‘paanwala’ shop. That was a routine and I faced my father’s ire on a number of occasions. For him, cricket was not a priority.”
“My father did most of the hard work, he did all the odd jobs that you can imagine… selling milk, driving school vans, loading goods, he ensured that I got a good life. He went through all that just to see me become a cricketer one day. He took me to Meerut and made sure that I got into a decent academy.”, he added.
He was picked at INR 1.9 crores in the IPL auction by Sunrisers Hyderabad. If he continues to play like this he will surely catch the eye of Indian selector as well ver soon.
