The Premier League is set for a new set of restrictions, which could completely change the way football works in England. The regulations will be announced by the British government in the coming days, which could see a massive shift from the 2024/25 season.

It is no secret that the Premier League is much more financially strong than the rest of the world. The disparity in financial power has become even more prominent in recent years, with relatively less successful teams spending an eye-catching sum of money on transfers.

Premier League set for new regulations to change the way the sport works

There will be more scrutiny of club owners, wherein they will have to clearly show their means of wealth generation. This will lead to the formation of an independent body, which will oversee the financial aspect of the game. And it will also look into cases such as that of Manchester City, who use accounting nuances to make their funding conform to the rules.

The fans are also expected to have more of a say in the workings of the club. And they will be allowed to veto changes in the name of the club or the badge.

The way clubs deal with human rights will also be scrutinised heavily under the new restrictions. This will be achieved through a test, the details of which are yet to be revealed.

Lastly, clubs will also be prevented from joining external competitions such as the European Super League – which remains a possibility even at this stage.
