The Premier League is set to be shown on a new channel after almost ten years. In the UK, the league is currently broadcast on Sky Sports and BT Sports.
But, with BT Sports undergoing a merger with Eurosport last year in a deal worth £650 million, a new home for the Premier League is now expected.
Premier League to be shown on new channel for the first time since 2013
Currently, there are five BT Sports channels and two Eurosports Channels. As part of the rebrand, the number of channels are set to be reduced. And this will result in a considerable number of employees being offloaded.
Pundits such as Rio Ferdinand, Robbie Savage and Michael Owen are contracted for another two years. But, around 200 BT Sports employees have been told that they need to reapply for their current jobs. Around 50 jobs are set to be made redundant as well.
The company will also move from their base near West Ham United’s London Stadium to Warner Brothers studios in Chiswick and Stockley Park.
The price of the package is not yet revealed, but customers can expect an announcement once the merger is complete.
In recent years, several new names have emerged to broadcast the Premier League. Apple TV, DAZN and Amazon are expected to make huge bids to get the rights when they are up for grabs.
