The Premier League hammered its financial power in football after figures displayed that combined club revenue went up to 12 percent in the 2021-22 season to a massive €5.5 billion.

Premier League revenue went on to a staggering €5.5 billion, which is more than double their rivals LaLiga

The English top flight is way ahead of its staunch European rivals, as suggested by Deloitte’s data. Its nearest challenger La Liga has only managed to reach only half of their total, touching a figure of €2.8 billion, despite experiencing an 11 percent rise in revenue.

Commercial revenue also touched its all-time peak for Premier League, going up from €48 million to €319 million, and the wage growth increase was outpaced by the increase in revenue for two consecutive seasons.

The sensational performance from Premier League clubs helped change the matchday record at €1.1 bn after the fans got back to the stadiums post-COVID. The massive revenue also contributed to increased revenue in the ‘big five’ league in Europe, as the report suggests. Bundesliga, La Liga, and the Seri A combined revenue rose to 10 percent to €14.7bn.

Massive comeback after pandemic

According to Tim Bridge of Deloitte, it was an amazing comeback by European clubs post the pandemic. He also admitted that the “overall recovery work is in progress.”

For the Championship, the figures were less positive. Despite recording a high revenue, the wages were higher than the number.

Talking about it, Bridge said that some tier 2 teams were operating beyond their means, with few Premier League teams ‘overstretching’ financially to provide them with assistance.
