The Premier League is the best league in Europe after nine years removed from the top spot. They have been ranked number one by UEFA according to their coefficient score for all of Europe’s top five leagues. England lead the race right now, with 98.997 to eclipse Spain’s 97.425.
The main reason behind the country being rated so highly is due to four Premier League teams competing in the semi finals of European football. Chelsea and Manchester City represent England in the last four of the Champions League while Arsenal and Manchester United do so in the Europa League.
While the Gunners lost 2-1 to Villareal in the first leg of the semi final tie, Manchester United achieved a massive turnaround, coming from two down to win 6-2 at Old Trafford.
On the other hand, their rivals Manchester City won 2-1 at PSG while Chelsea took on Real Madrid and drew 1-1 at the Spanish capital.
The end of the season is still a while to go, and if England keep up such performances, they could surpass the record number held by Spain for the 2015-16 season when Atletico Madrid faced off against Real Madrid in the finals of the Champions League while Sevilla beat Liverpool in the finals of the Europa League.
The league in itself hasn’t been much competitive as of late in terms of who gets the trophy, although the start and the middle of the season was anybody’s game. The league title is surely going to Manchester City again. However, all of Manchester United, Leicester City, Chelsea, West Ham United, Everton and Spurs are competing for the remaining three Champions League places in a very heated battle where every point matters.
