Very rarely has a goalkeeper been named the Premier League Player Of The Month. In fact, there have only been nine distinct players to achieve the feat since the award was first given out in August 1994.

And in this article, we take a look at all nine players who have managed to bag the award with a remarkable run of performances.

9. David Seaman- Arsenal (April 1995)

Seaman was the star for Arsenal when they were having one of their worst defensive runs in history. The goalkeeper helped Arsenal move to 11th place from 14th and only conceded six goals in the seven games played. As a result, he became the first-ever goalkeeper to be named the Premier League player of the month.

8. Tim Flowers- Blackburn Rovers (January 1997) , Leicester City (September 2000)

Flowers is the only man on the list to have received the award twice, as well as for two different clubs. He kept three clean sheets in January 1997 and conceded only one goal in four games. Flowers would then win the award again for Leicester, who were at the top of the table at the time. With two clean sheets against Southampton and Chelsea, he received the award for the second time in his career.

7. Alex Manninger- Arsenal (March 1998)

Manninger kept six consecutive clean sheets, three of which came in March after he was given a chance in the first team. The shot stopper was the replacement for the injured David Seaman and made the most of the opportunity given to him.

6. Paul Robinson- Leeds United (November 2000)

Robinson kept a clean sheet in his debut for Leeds United against Chelsea. His performances thereafter made him part of the only goalkeeping duo in history to win the Premier League player of the month award in one season.

5. Petr Cech- Chelsea (March 2007)

Petr Cech remains the best goalkeeper that Chelsea has ever had. After returning from his skull fracture injury in January, he went on to keep four clean sheets out of four in March and ended up winning the Premier League player of the month award for that month.

4. Mark Schwarzer- Fulham (February 2010)

Schwarzer kept four clean sheets in five games in February 2010. And this led to him winning the player of the month award, after helping them reach European spots in the previous campaign.

3. Tim Krul- Newcastle United (November 2013)

Newcastle United defeated Tottenham Hotspur 1-0, with Krul making an incredible 13 saves. He also kept a clean sheet in their win against Chelsea that month, eventually receiving the monthly award.

2. Fraser Forster- Southampton (February 2016)

Forster ended up breaking Southampton’s record for the most minutes spent without conceding a goal, with 708 minutes spent. He also kept three clean sheets in four games which helped him win the award.

1. David de Gea- Manchester United (January 2022)

David De Gea became the most recent goalkeeper to be named the Premier League player of the month. He made 22 saves in the four games that the club played that month. And in the process, he became the first-ever Manchester United goalkeeper to receive the award.
