Match of the Week
Liverpool vs Leeds United (4-3)
It was an absolute attacking masterclass as the Premier League Champions took on the victors of the Championship on the very first matchday.
While Leeds did not get to a very encouraging start, conceding a penalty within the first ten minutes which Salah happily converted, they did put up a great fight. Marcelo Bielsa himself came out saying that his team were the better side in some passages. And in all honesty, it was hard to disagree.
While the game looked set to finish on level terms, new signing Rodrygo gifted Liverpool in the dying minutes of regulation time. Salah once again scored from the spot, completing a hat-trick in the process.
Honorable Mention: Fulham 0-3 Arsenal
Arsenal struggling to beat teams from the bottom half seems like too long ago. Mikel Arteta has completely transformed the Gunners into a side that looks sharp and confident in all aspects of the game.
The first matchday was a gentle reminder that Arsenal are still in contention for the top spots. In addition, it was also an early sign that Fulham might be destined for relegation first this season.
Player of the Week: Mohammed Salah
It’s hard to argue with this one. The Egyptian bagged three in the first game of the season and is way ahead of the rest in the race for the Golden Boot.
The forward was on fire throughout the game and looks set to have another great season in the Prem.
Goal of the Week: Reece James vs Brighton
Mohamed Salah was just about to make the Goal of the Week. However, Reece James’s screamer against Brighton ultimately took the cake.
