There is a recent rumor circulating that the release of high-end laptops featuring the next-generation Intel Arrow Lake and AMD Strix Point CPUs could be delayed until early 2025. Both Intel and AMD have recently introduced the initial set of AI-infused processors as part of the Meteor Lake and Hawk Point CPU families. However, it appears that the high-end laptop market may continue to utilize some of the older chips throughout 2024, as the launch of the next-generation CPUs is purportedly postponed to 2025.
All About the Intel Arrow Lake-HX & AMD Ryzen ‘Strix Point’ Delay
This rumor has emerged from Golden Pig Upgrade on Weibo, a reputable source known for providing accurate leaks and rumors related to laptop-based CPUs. The insider has previously shared accurate details about CPUs such as Meteor Lake, Raptor Lake, Ryzen 7000, and Ryzen 8000, lending some credibility to this information. Nevertheless, it is advisable to approach this news with caution and consider it speculative.
The report emphasizes that the information aligns with the absence of new CPUs planned for 2024, as revealed in the context of Xiaomi’s Redmi G PRO laptops featuring Intel’s refreshed 14th Gen Raptor Lake-HX. Intel, in its CES 2024 keynote, announced the launch of Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake CPUs in 2024. However, it remained unclear whether these chips were designed for high-end users or intended for a similar market segment as the 1st Gen Core Ultra “Meteor Lake” chips.
Both Intel and AMD currently provide high-end laptops with their respective “HX” series, with Intel’s Raptor Lake-HX and AMD’s Dragon Range-HX based on the same desktop dies as their respective CPU series. The upcoming generation from Intel will feature Arrow Lake-HX dies, while AMD’s counterpart will be the Fire Range-HX CPUs based on the Zen 5 core architecture.
Given that AMD has yet to release its Strix Point APU family for laptops, it appears that the launch of the high-end Zen 5 CPUs could be pushed to early 2025. This delay seems reasonable, especially considering that CES is a prominent venue for laptop announcements from both Intel and AMD. The Strix Point lineup from AMD includes Strix for mainstream use and a more premium Strix “Halo” family, with the latter rumored to be postponed to 2025.
Meanwhile, Intel is set to introduce its Arrow Lake-H and Arrow Lake-S families in both the laptop and desktop markets. AMD, reportedly, has already begun mass production of its Zen 5-based Granite Ridge desktop CPUs, slated for a 2H 2024 launch. Additionally, Intel’s Lunar Lake CPUs will serve the low-power U-series (MX) segment, replacing Raptor Lake-U and Meteor Lake-U chips.
The potential release of the next-generation Intel and AMD HX CPUs for laptops may align with the launch of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series, based on the Blackwell architecture. As NVIDIA’s RTX 40 “Ada Lovelace” GPUs for laptops have been available for over a year, CES 2025 is speculated to be an opportune time for the release of the next generation of laptop discrete graphics, complementing Intel’s Arrow Lake-HX and AMD’s Strix Point and Fire Range CPUs.
