Paris Saint-Germain has quickly turned around as one of the biggest spending clubs. They have two of the biggest stars of the game, Neymar and Mbappe in their team.
However, what PSG are about to achieve this summer ahead of the 2021-22 season is unparalleled. They have only spent significant money on the signing of Achraf Hakimi while signing Ramos, Donnarumma, Wijnaldum and now probably Messi on a free transfer.
The business PSG has done this summer is remarkable and the team they are about to make looks invincible on paper. PSG will start with Ligue 1 campaign tonight against Troyes. They would like to take back their Ligue 1 trophy from Lille, who surprisingly won the 2020-21 Ligue 1 title.
Let’s take a look at the possible XI of PSG for the 2021-22 season:
GK: Gianluigi Donnarumma
The former AC Milan goalkeeper has joined PSG on a free transfer this summer. The 22-year-old was the Man of the Tournament in Euro 2020 as Italy lifted the trophy. He is one of the best in the business and would surely help PSG to keep a good defensive record.
RWB: Achraf Hakimi
Hakimi joined PSG from Inter Milan on a deal worth €60 million upfront, and potentially €11 million in add-ons. The Moroccan won the 2020-21 Serie A title with Inter Milan and is one of the most promising right-backs who can attack as well as defend.
CB: Sergio Ramos
The former Real Madrid captain also joined PSG this summer on a free transfer as he failed to reach a contract agreement with Real Madrid. Ramos has literally won everything on offer at both international and club levels. His experience will be vital to the PSG backline.
CB: Marquinhos
The Brazilian centre-back has been at PSG since 2013. The current PSG captain is a rock at the defence and would certainly be leading the side this time as well.
CB: Presnel Kimpembe
The 2018 World Cup winning French defender has come out of the ranks of the PSG youth academy and has been at the club ever since. He will partner Ramos and Marquinhos in a 3-man defence.
LWB: Juan Bernat
Bernat joined PSG from Bayern Munich in 2018 and has been their first choice left-back ever since. The Spanish full-back will have more freedom going forward this time which will make him more dangerous.
CM: Marco Veratti
The Euro 2020 winning Italian defender will be at the heart of the PSG midfield connecting the defence to the attack. He has been at the club since 2012 and will once again play an important part in the team.
CM: Gini Wijnaldum
The former Liverpool man joined PSG on a free transfer this summer and will partner Veratti in the midfield. Despite Netherlands losing in the Round of 16 at Euro 2020, Wijnaldum was in an excellent form which is bad news for PSG’s opponents.
RW: Lionel Messi
It has been confirmed by many reliable sources that PSG are the front runners in securing Messi’s signature. Barcelona has been unable to sign a new contract extension with Lionel Messi due to La Liga’s financial restrictions and Messi is now a free agent. So PSG are trying to make one of the best-attacking trios in world football, Messi-Neymar-Mbappe. Messi can be the missing link of PSG’s puzzle and with Messi taking centre stage of PSG’s attacking play, this year may well be PSG’s chance to achieve their dream of winning the UCL.
ST: Kylian Mbappe
Although Mbappe has refused to sign a contract extension with PSG, he may well play out the last year of his contract which would see him play alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar. The brightest talent of this upcoming generation is always a threat to the opponent and with Messi and Neymar on his sides, he will be even more lethal.
LW: Neymar
The Brazillian would be reunited with his former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi and would like to regain their terrific partnership during their Camp Nou days. Neymar can take on a team on his own any day and with Messi guiding him, he would be even more effective.
