Portugal now has more Instagram followers than Brazil. While the yellows have 17.7 million followers on the image sharing website, Portugal now have 18.4 million followers on Instagram.

The five-time FIFA World Cup winners can boast of having won the holy grail of football the most number of times, though. While Portugal haven’t won the tournament once, they have won the Euros once and are entering a truly golden generation of talent.

While Instragram might tell one story, Brazil’s fans are based worldwide, and are not restricted to the country. Their love for football is truly unmatched, and the country has a history of producing some of the best players in the world.

Skilled forwards are known to be their speciality, but solid midfielders and defenders have also graced the sport from the country. They have recently had to undergo a slump in form, but have all the talent to make it back to the top in the coming years.

Portugal, on the other hand, are preparing to bid farewell to Cristiano Ronaldo in a few years. He is by far the biggest player to come out of the country, and it will be interesting to see how the national team copes once he retires.

How many international goals has Ronaldo scored?

132 goals
