Arsenal have agreed the signing of Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira. The player is expected to fly to London today and sign the contract for a five-year deal. The transfer fee involved in the transfer is upwards of €40 million, with €35 million guaranteed and the rest in potential add-ons.
The transfer has been given the ‘here we go’ signal by Fabrizio Romano, which means that it is only a matter of time before the move is made official.
Fabio Vieira to join Arsenal in the coming days
The Portugal Under 21 captain will be the second signing for Mikel Arteta in this transfer window, after the arrival of Brazilian youngster Marquinhos. The attacking midfielder has been very impressive so far, scoring seven goals and providing 16 assists for Porto in 19 appearances this past season.
Mikel Arteta’s interest in the player was one of the main reasons behind the transfer being pursued by the North London side. And in the coming days, it will be made official once all the payment details have been finalised between the two clubs.
Alongside Martin Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe, Mikel Arteta will have a number of talented and young attacking midfielders to choose from. Due to the competition in game time, it could lead to positive development from all the players. However, Fabio Vieira is a versatile player and can play as a false nine or a central midfielder as well. This would allow him to feature alongside any of these players as well.
