PlayStation Plus Premium customers will soon have access to PS5 cloud streaming. Sony recently announced numerous games coming to PlayStation Plus in June, and now it has revealed additional details about this next upgrade, which might be a game changer for PS5 gamers interested in cloud streaming.
PlayStation Plus is Sony’s official subscription program, first launched in 2010. The program has evolved significantly over the years, but it has remained a popular option for PlayStation players who wish to play online and receive free games every month. There are three levels: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Players in the Premium tier can use the cloud to stream games from prior platforms directly into their console.
According to a new Circana report, game subscription spending growth was barely 2% over the last year, implying that businesses like Sony and Microsoft have stopped expanding their user base for these services. Adding additional features and better games is thus a tactic for retaining the interest of more gamers.
Now, PlayStation has stated that it is actively testing cloud streaming for PS5 titles for PlayStation Plus Premium customers, which will be available soon.
Subscribers can already stream games from the PS3, PS4, and earlier platforms, so the option to do the same with current-gen games was keenly anticipated by PlayStation fans, especially because Microsoft has offered this functionality in its Xbox Game Pass for quite some time.
At the moment, though, it’s unclear when this PlayStation Plus upgrade will be released, as the firm has stated that this new functionality is still in its early phases. However, given Sony’s huge cloud streaming infrastructure, there’s a high chance it won’t take long.
