Famitsu, the Japanese media outlet has revealed about the initial sale of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in Japan. Expectedly the PS5 performs better in the Japanese market than the Xbox. PlayStation 5 has launched on 19th November for the rest of the world and this global launch was for 65 countries. Sony’s console has left behind the Xbox Series X in the sale by over 5 to 1.

After seven years of long waiting, the console lovers were gone all crazy to have the new generation console PlayStation 5. But for the pandemic situation, the supply chains are broken, for that stocks were limited on the lunch day. The same happened to Microsoft, during the launch of the Xbox Series.

According to the records, 118,085 units of PlayStation 5 have been sold in Japan while only 20,534 units of Xbox consoles have been purchased by the gamers. The ratio of outscoring the Microsoft console in the market has gone by 5.75 to 1, which is really an impressive ratio for Sony.

Nintendo Switch always gives a tough competition to Sony in Japan. Nintendo has its huge fan base in Japan for the family-friendly games. You can see the sales record of all the consoles below.

  • Xbox Series S:  4,287
  • Xbox Series X: 16,247
  • Nintendo Switch Lite: 22,596
  • Nintendo Switch: 93,671
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition: 14,184
  • PlayStation 5: 103,901

It is true that during the lockdown, game sales and revenue have increased immensely. Nintendo has turned its profit into a triple in those recent months. Because of PS5’s limited stocks, eBay took a chance on this situation and stocked thousands of PS5 consoles with the double price tag. In recent years, it has been seen that Sony is concentrating more in markets of the US and Europe. As a result, it is expected that the sale of PS5 could go down in comparison to PS4.
