Seven-time first division trophy winners Manchester City are the defending champions in the ongoing PL season. They are currently the points-table toppers with 90 points in 37 games (28 wins, 6 draws and 3 losses).

In the meantime, the 19-time first division title winners Liverpool are just behind the City in the PL points table with 89 points in 37 matches (27 wins, 8 draws and 2 losses).

Ahead of the final gameweek (38) of the ongoing PL season, there is just a point gap between the Sky Blues and the Reds. So, this top European first division league can expect a thrilling finish.

On the last day of the PL 2021/22, while City will host Aston Villa, Liverpool will play a home game against the Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Here we are talking about multiple possible scenarios that will decide the winners of this PL season.

Scenario 1

Manchester City

The points-table leader Manchester City has the advantage to win this title. If they manage to beat Villa, the Sky Blues will claim the title with 93 points. At this point, Liverpool’s result will not matter as the Reds can’t achieve at least 93 points.

Scenario 2

If City only manage to claim a draw, they will end this competition with 91 points. In this case, Liverpool must have to win their contest to snatch this PL title.

Part I

Even a draw result for the Reds (90 points) means the Citizens will celebrate the PL title.

Part II

Only a winning result will help the Anfield fans to celebrate the PL trophy with 92 points.

Scenario 3

City will end this PL season with 90 points if they suffered a defeat against Villa.

Part I

The Reds will also finish this competition with 90 points if they only manage to draw against the Wolves. As both teams will have the same points, the goal differences can play a major role in determining the winners. Currently, the Sky Blues (72 goal differences) have a better record than the Reds (66 goal differences) in this particular stat. So, in this case, the Etihad Stadium fans will have a higher chance to celebrate the PL title, unless the Sky Blues suffer a big defeat by at least a seven-goal margin.

Part II

Once again, Liverpool can celebrate winning this PL title in this scenario with a victory as they will then have 92 points.

Finally, the simple point

So, Manchester City will secure this Premier League title with a win. In the meantime, Liverpool can only snatch this trophy if they win their game and City also have to fail to win their contest.

The other key contests for the final day of the Premier League 2021/22

Battle for UEFA Champions League 2022/23 – Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal

Currently, Tottenham Hotspur are in the fourth position in the points table with 68 points (21 wins, 5 draws and 11 losses; 24 goal differences), and Arsenal are in the fifth spot with 66 points (21 wins, 3 draws and 13 losses; 9 goal differences).

While the visitors’ Spurs will face Norwich City on the final day, the hosts’ Gunners will take on Everton at the same moment.

In a simple sentence, Arsenal can only change their fate if they win and Spurs also suffer a defeat. While the fourth positioned team will advance for the UEFA Champions League 2022/23, the fifth-best side can only qualify for the UEFA Europa League 2022/23.

Meanwhile, Manchester United (58 points; 16 wins, 10 draws and 11 losses; 1 goal difference) and West Ham United (56 points; 16 wins, 8 draws and 13 losses; 11 goal differences) are battling to secure their place for the UEFA Europa League 2022/23, as only one of them can fulfill this dream. While the sixth positioned team will earn this ticket, the seventh-best team in this PL season will only qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League 2022/23 play-off round.

On the final day of this competition, Manchester United will play an away game against Crystal Palace. At the same time, the hosts Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. will welcome West Ham United.

Though Manchester United have a better chance, West Ham United can only change their own fate with a victory and also the Red Devils’ failure to claim a win.

The battle to avoid the relegation zone – Burnley and Leeds United

In the meantime, Burnley and Leeds United will hope for their luck to somehow avoid the relegation zone. Both Burnley (7 wins, 14 draws and 16 losses; -18 goal differences) and Leeds United (8 wins, 11 draws and 18 losses; -38 goal differences) have 35 points each, but Burnley (17th position) are ahead of Leeds (18th position) due to having better goal differences.

In the Gameweek 38 of this PL season, while Burnley will host Newcastle United, Leeds United will play an away game against Brentford.

In this contest between Burnley and Leeds United, the team with a better result will avoid the relegation zone. But if both teams have the same results in their respective final outings of this season, Burnley will stay in the Premier League.
