Piero Hincapie has signed a new contract with Bayer Leverkusen, extending his stay with them until June 2027. The central defender attracted a lot of interest from big clubs across Europe during the January transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur were one of the clubs trying to sign him, but they were unable to reach an agreement. And now, they are set to miss out on him for the foreseeable future since he has committed to the Bundesliga club.
Piero Hincapie signs new contract with Bayer Leverkusen
“Bayer Leverkusen is exactly the right club. I wasn’t promised too much here but I was given the time on the pitch at a high level as a young player that I wanted,” said Piero Hincapie, about his new contract. “I’ve been able to settle in here and reinforce my place in the national team. It’s great motivation for me to continue to produce performances in coming years and aim for titles with Bayer 04.”
The Colombian has been a mainstay on the left side of the defence for the last eighteen months. His performances with the national team at the 2022 World Cup were instrumental in getting his market value higher.
And at only 21 years of age, he is showing all the right signs to mature into one of the top central defenders in the Bundesliga. Alongside Moises Caicedo and Kendry Paez, he is one of the most highly rated Ecuadorian talents right now.
