Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal with Sporting CP for the signing of Pedro Porro. The two clubs have been locked in negotiations for weeks, and have finally been able to get the deal over the line.
Spurs were putting forth a bid worth under his €45 million release clause, but the final fee agreed is close to that amount itself. However, the structure of the deal might be suited to their benefit instead of paying the money in one go.
Pedro Porro to join Tottenham on a permanent transfer
After a verbal agreement was in place between the two clubs since Saturday, Spurs are pushing to get the deal over the line as soon as they can.
Pedro Porro will be travelling to London today to complete his medical and sign the contract. He has agreed personal terms with the Premier League club until 2028, and will be officially presented by them once the formalities have been completed.
He was previously a part of the Manchester City academy, and is now back in England after spending time in Portugal. Antonio Conte wanted him for a while now, and finally has the player that he wanted.
With Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty both being unable to meet expectations, Pedro Porro could provide an instant impact for the club. He faced Spurs twice with Sporting in the Champions League, and was impressive on both occasions. He has provided six assists and scored two goals in the Portuguese league this season.
And as a result, he could provide an instant impact for Antonio Conte once he joins the first team. Pedro Porro will be the second winter signing for the Lilywhites, after they agreed a deal for Arnaut Danjuma with Villarreal, even though he was expected to sign for Everton.
