Pedri, the Golden Boy Award winner, has been one of the best players for Barcelona over the past year. Although he missed the initial half of the season due to injury, he has made a strong return to the first team and is back in the starting line-up with the same form that he showed previously.
Former Barcelona sporting director Ramon Planes has revealed that the total fee paid for the youngster will be less than €20 million including add-ons. Pedri was signed from Las Palmas in 2020, for a fee worth €5 million. And at the time, people were critical of paying that much money for a young player.
However, the midfielder has made the deal look like an absolute bargain considering his achievements on the pitch.
Barcelona’s bargain deal for Pedri
The youngster became a regular in the first team under former manager Ronald Koeman. He would then go on to play almost every minute of Spain’s Euro 2020 Campaign, as they progressed to the semifinals of the competition.
Following the Euros, Pedri would travel to Tokyo to play for Spain in the Olympics. He helped them progress to the finals and earn the silver medal at the competition, losing out to Brazil. The youngster earned a lot of praise for his tireless work rate and his superior technical ability.
With the potential that Pedri is already showing on the pitch, it is hard to believe he is only a teenager. As he grows over the years, he will become one of the best midfielders in world football with the right experience.
