Pedri named Young Player of the Year at Euro 2020

Spain and Barcelona midfielder Pedri has been named the tournament player at Euro 2020 for his magnificent performances throughout the competition.

He has attracted praise from spectators worldwide for his work in the heart of the park. His national team coach, Luis Enrique, was also very positive about the impact the La Masia graduate brings to the squad, saying: “What Pedri has done in this tournament, at 18, no one has done. Not even Andrés Iniesta did that; it’s incredible, unique.”

Only players born after 1st January 1988 are eligible for the award, and Pedri has rightly been named the award recipient. He had one of the highest pass completion rates of all in the tournament by the numbers, as he completed 429 out of 465 passes played. That results in a 92% pass completion rate, which is remarkable for a player of his age.

Pedri was Luis Enrique’s most used player in the Euros, as he played 629 minutes of a possible 630 in Euros. His breakthrough into the starting XI was arguably Spain’s biggest achievement this time around since they have unearthed a diamond for the future.

The same can be said for Barcelona since Pedri returns to Camp Nou as the hero of the Spanish squad. He will undoubtedly feature as a regular in the Barcelona XI alongside the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Sergio Busquets. He could also bag the Golden Boy award this year, following his Euro performances.
