Paulinho officially retires from football aged 36

Brazilian midfielder Paulinho has officially announced his retirement from professional football, aged 36. The player took to social media to reveal the decision after failing to find a club this summer.

He most recently played for Brazilian club Corinthians, and has now decided to hang up his boots after a lengthy career. The player has memorable spells at Tottenham and briefly at Barcelona.

Paulinho also played for Chinese side Guangzhou, joining Barcelona for €40 million in the summer of 2017.

While he was heavily criticised during his time at Barcelona, he played a key role in the cup and league double of 2017-18 under Ernesto Valverde. The player scored nine goals and provided three assists in 49 games, and often played up front when Neymar and Ousmane Dembele were injured.

In his 19-year professional career, the veteran has also represented the Brazilian national team, making it to the 2014 and 2018 World Cups while scoring 13 goals.
