## What Patriot Is About

ZEE5’s official synopsis describes *Patriot* as **“a gripping thriller following a whistleblower, who exposes a state-run surveillance system, revealing how power and greed control blur lines between patriotism and betrayal in a digital age.”** That positions the film less as a conventional mass-action entertainer and more as a tense political and surveillance thriller rooted in contemporary anxieties.

ZEE5’s editorial coverage also frames the film as a more grounded Malayalam spy thriller that leans into political conspiracies, emotional conflicts and the moral ambiguity of surveillance and state control rather than just spectacle. That tonal direction helps explain why the film has gained renewed discussion after arriving on streaming.

## Mammootty’s Role In The Film’s Appeal

While *Patriot* is an ensemble project, **Mammootty** is one of the biggest reasons the film attracted so much interest. ZEE5’s cast listing places him among the lead names, and much of the pre-release and post-release attention has centered on the reunion factor of Mammootty and Mohanlal sharing screen space again in a high-profile thriller.

## Why The OTT Release Matters

*Patriot* had a theatrical release on May 1, 2026, but its streaming debut on June 5 gives it a second life with audiences who may have missed it in cinemas. ZEE5 has positioned it as one of its notable June 2026 movie releases, and its availability in five major Indian languages broadens its reach significantly beyond the Malayalam market.

That multilingual release is important commercially and culturally. It allows Mammootty’s film to reach audiences across southern and northern India on a single platform, which is increasingly the way major regional films build a second wave of viewership after theatres.
