Let’s be honest — not every Ayushmann Khurrana film can be a Vicky Donor or Andhadhun. Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, despite riding on the goodwill of the beloved 2019 original Pati Patni Aur Woh, has had a tough theatrical journey. The numbers tell the story clearly, and while Rs. 50 crore lifetime is now within reach, the trade has already stamped it a flop.

On its 2nd Wednesday (Day 13), the film added Rs. 1.10 crore nett — a 10% dip from the previous day. Steady? Yes. Enough to change the narrative? Unfortunately, no

## Why Did the Film Struggle?

The post-2020 era has been particularly unkind to small-town Bollywood comedies. The 2018–19 golden period — which gave us films like the original Pati Patni Aur Woh and a string of Ayushmann hits — feels like a different lifetime now. Audience behaviour has shifted dramatically, theatrical footfalls for mid-budget comedies have thinned, and OTT has completely altered viewing habits.

Had this film landed in 2019, the outcome might have looked very different. The [romantic comedy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romantic_comedy_film) genre globally has been navigating this exact challenge — audiences love the content, but they’re increasingly choosing to wait for the streaming release rather than heading to theaters.

It’s worth noting that the reported figures include some “feedings” (inflated numbers from distributor adjustments), meaning the actual collections could be slightly lower than what’s reported. Always worth keeping in mind when reading box office data.

## What’s Next for Ayushmann?

Despite this setback, Ayushmann Khurrana’s track record remains one of the most remarkable in Bollywood. He has delivered multiple genre-defining hits and built a loyal audience base over the years.
