Pat Gelsinger returns to Intel but this time as CEO

It began all with Intel; Pat Gelsinger started his career with the company that has changed the silicon industry’s face at just 18 years of age. He spent the first 30 years of his career at Intel and was part of the original 80486 processor, led 14 microprocessor programs.

Not only this, he played key roles in the Intel Core and Intel Xeon processor families, but he left the company to explore more opportunities. Among them, Gelsinger’s most significant achievement came when he was CEO of VMware, almost tripling the company’s annual revenues.

He was even ranked the best CEO in America in 2019 by Glassdoor, and now when Intel is having a tough time, Gelsinger has been appointed the new CEO of the company, replacing Bob Swan. Today, February 15th, Pat Gelsinger becomes the company’s eighth chief executive officer in its history.

Gelsinger shared his thoughts on returning to lead the company, saying:

“As the incoming CEO, I am just really thrilled that we have the opportunity to take this great icon of a company, this company that has been crucial to every aspect of technology, and have it be that leader again into the future. Because I believe that Intel has a treasure trove of technologists, of technology, and ultimately its core DNA is being that technology leader for the future. I’m just thrilled as a technologist, as a geek at heart, to be able to be in that leadership role to help bring the passions, the history, the opportunity of this great company forward as never before. Our best days are in front of us.”
