## Who Killed President Baines — And Why?

With Xavier gone and Sinatra recovering from being shot in the Season 1 finale, **Henry Baines** consolidated power fast — cracking down on dissent, arresting protesters, and putting Sinatra under house arrest after a tense interrogation. He seemed untouchable.

But Sinatra had one move left. During her interrogation, she made what sounded like an offhand remark about Baines needing a **“breath mint”** — dismissive, almost funny. Except it wasn’t. In a Season 2 flashback, it’s revealed that this exact phrase is a covert **assassination code** between Sinatra and her operatives. The target’s name and photo follow the phrase. Jane received the message — and acted on it.

During Baines’ evening jog, Jane — his trusted security detail — calmly **slit his throat**, killing him instantly. Then, with clinical precision, she marked his shirt with an **X in his own blood**, echoing the rebel graffiti seen across the bunker, to make the scene look like a rebel hit.

When Special Agent **Nicole Robinson** arrived — having already been investigating Jane — she found the President’s body. Jane knocked her out from behind, placed the murder weapon in Nicole’s hand, and completed the frame-up. Nicole is now the prime suspect.

This is the kind of layered, slow-burn storytelling that has made [Paradise](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradise_(TV_series)) one of the smartest thrillers on television right now. ## What’s Next?

Sinatra’s mysterious secret project is still siphoning power from the bunker’s grid. Xavier’s son Jeremy has located the bunker’s original designer in prison and wants to blow the whole system open. And the looming mystery of who — or what — **“Alex”** is keeps growing darker by the episode.
