Arsenal have permanently offloaded Pablo Mari, with the central defender joining Serie A side Monza. They will receive £6 million for the player, who originally made the move on a loan deal.

There was an obligation to buy included in the deal under the condition that Monza survived in the top flight. Moreover, there was also a criteria of him playing a certain number of games in order to be considered for a permanent transfer.

The defender has played 27 times for Monza this season, with five more games yet to play. He hasn’t missed a lot of playing time, in spite of a stab wound in October and another injury in August. Personal terms have also been agreed between him and his new club, finalising the transfer ahead of the summer window.

Monza secured their status in the top flight mathematically, after they drew 1-1 with Roma. The club is currently in 10th place on 45 points, closer to European spots than relegation.

Pablo Mari didn’t have the most fruitful time with Arsenal, being on the fringes for the most part. And he has now been moved on permanently to make room for new players to be brought in this summer. More permanent departures are expected as the summer transfer window draws nearer, in order to raise more funds.
