Norwich City have negotiated the signing of Schalke centre-back Ozan Kabak on an initial loan deal with the option to buy for €15 million.

The player spent the latter half of the 20/21 season on loan at Liverpool. He was a very important player under Jurgen Klopp, with the Liverpool squad plagued by injuries to Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez. The Turkish defender helped the Merseyside club achieve a top-four finish on the final day, proving his worth after a rocky start to life in England.

Liverpool had the chance to sign the player for around €30 million but decided against making the move permanent. They instead finalised the transfer of RB Leipzig centre half Ibrahima Konate. According to sources, Kabak has completed his medical for the Canaries earlier today and will be announced as a new Norwich City player in the upcoming hours.

Kabak is Schalke’s most valuable asset, and after being relegated to the 2. Bundesliga last season, they were in dire need of funds and Kabak’s sale will help the club get back on their feet and potentially get back to the German top flight.

The 21-year-old has shown tremendous potential and could help Norwich avoid the drop this season. The Canaries have pulled off smart deals in the summer window after being promoted to the Premier League, signing Billy Gilmour from Chelsea, Brandon Williams from Manchester United, Milot Rashica and now, Ozan Kabak from Schalke.
