OnePlus has officially unveiled OxygenOS 15, its latest custom Android skin. Now, the highlight of this product is that the company aims for faster performance with advanced AI tools and neat design. However, the OnePlus 12 will be among the first devices to get this update and they haven’t finalized which all are going to get it when. Here’s what you need to know.

OnePlus says that with OxygenOS 15 it plans to upgrade its devices’ smoothness and efficiency. This iteration also adds more animations better looking than ever in the official preview videos so you can expect that it will be even smoother. The AI features are made up of tools such as the AI Unblur and AI Detail Boost, which help lift image quality and visual appeal.

  • Intelligent Search: Refines on-device search, enabling conversational queries for more accurate results.
  • Circle to Search: Allows users to search for items in images by drawing a circle around them.
  • Pass Scan: Quickly scans paper or digital boarding passes through the camera or gallery.
  • AI Notes: Formats, organizes, and transcribes voice input, enhancing note-taking with voice-powered AI.
  • AI Reply: Suggests context-based replies for conversations, accessible in the smart sidebar.

The Gemini app will also debut on OnePlus flagships, serving as a real-time assistant capable of handling complex queries in multiple languages, similar to Apple’s Siri advancements.

Updated Design and System Features

OxygenOS 15 comes with an updated boot animation, redesigned icons, and more customization options such as new fingerprint unlock styles and a reimagined shelf. An updated OneTake mode now enables any part of a photo to be used as lock screen wallpapers, while the “Share with iPhone” feature lets you send files between your OnePlus phone and an Apple device. The additional visual changes extend to Gaussian Blur and Shimmering Effects throughout the system for a more rounded finish.

Security Upgrades

Safer features including theft protection which will lock the device when it detects high-speed movement, and remote and offline locks reinforce safety. So those things we mentioned about theft protection and the Find My Device stuff now always have to be confirmed with a fingerprint.

Release and Eligibility

OnePlus will first release an open beta of OxygenOS 15 on October 30, with the OnePlus 12 receiving the first stable update. The company has hinted that certain AI tools may only be available on specific models and plans to share more details on device eligibility soon. Likely candidates include the OnePlus Nord 4, OnePlus 12R, and the OnePlus Open, among others from the 2024 lineup.
