Barcelona will be looking to extend Ousmane Dembele’s contract after the 2022 World Cup. And they will want to hurry up considering an interesting clause in his current contract.
The winger renewed his deal with Barcelona after it expired in July 2022, taking his stay till 2024. And as usual, the Spanish side included a release clause in his deal worth €100 million. However, in July 2023, that amount will drop to €50 million.
Ousmane Dembele contract renewal situation explained
Around the winter transfer window last year, Ousmane Dembele’s situation was surrounded by a ton of drama. Speculation about his future was fuelled every single day, but he eventually ended up staying with the Blaugranas.
At one point, club president Joan Laporta had said that he wouldn’t be played. However, he has since been reintegrated in the team and his form has been remarkable. This season, he has scored four goals and provided five assists in 14 La Liga games.
And considering his release clause, which can be paid by any club, several parties will be interested in signing him for a seemingly low price. The Frenchman’s entourage will be contacted after the World Cup to discuss a new contract, which Barcelona want to be until 2026. And it will be up to them to negotiate a new deal before the summer arrives, and the release clause becomes achievable for big clubs across Europe.
