Ousmane Dembele on Chelsea’s radar for free transfer in June 2022

Ousmane Dembele could be Chelsea’s first signing of the Todd Boehly era, as the Barcelona winger looks set to leave on a free transfer. He has held several talks with the club for a new deal, but with his contract set to run out next month, it seems like he will be leaving as a free agent after all.

Paris Saint-Germain were leading the race to sign him a few weeks ago. But, the dismissal of their sporting director Leonardo has thrown their move for Dembele into doubt. Clubs like Bayern Munich and Liverpool have also shown interest in signing the player this summer.

Ousmane Dembele wants Chelsea move this summer

Of all the options available for the Frenchman this summer, it seems like Chelsea is the preference for him. A reunion with Thomas Tuchel would be on the cards if he chooses to join the Blues.

For Barcelona, Dembele became a symbol for unfulfilled potential over the last few years. Injuries ruined his hopes of a consistent run in the first team until recently. The winger was given an extended run in the second half of the domestic season, and he finished with the most assists in the league despite missing almost half the campaign.

The German was the man responsible for giving Ousmane Dembele his big break at Borussia Dortmund before he moved to Barcelona. And now, he could bring out the best in the 25-year-old if the two start working together under the new Chelsea ownership.
