Barcelona have reached a stumbling block in contract negotiations with Ousmane Dembele. The winger is keen on continuing with the Blaugrana, but he wants to negotiate a higher salary than the one he is on right now.
And owing to Barcelona’s dire financial situation, they are unable to do so. The situation is made further complicated by the fact that his release clause drops down to €50 million from €100 million on the 1st of July. And the club isn’t ruling out a departure for him if an agreement isn’t reached.
Barca transfer news: Ousmane Dembele contract talks reach deadlock againÂ
There was tons of drama surrounding the player’s renewal last season. It seemed likely that he would be leaving since there was no sign of an agreement. However, Xavi Hernandez was key to Ousmane Dembele renewing, as he managed to get the best out of the player.
Dembele has been an important performer for the team this season as well, but has battled injuries on and off yet again. In spite of that, Barcelona want him to stay but are trying to find a way around his wage demands. The promise right now is for him to receive a salary hike from the 2024/25 season, which is also when his current contract expires.
So, unless his deal is renewed soon, ohe is sold this summer, he could walk out as a free agent in 2024 and join any club of his choosing.
