Oscar Mingueza has officially completed his move to Celta Vigo. The 23-year-old has signed a contract with his new club until 2026. Barcelona will receive a nominal fee under €5 million for the player, but will be entitled to 50% of any future sale.
The defender’s arrival has been confirmed by Vigo on their official social media accounts. After Clement Lenglet and Francisco Trincao, Mingueza becomes the third player to leave Barcelona this summer.
Oscar Mingueza joins Celta Vigo
Mingueza has been subject to a lot of criticism during his time at Barcelona. He made his debut under former coach Ronald Koeman, and can play either as a centre-back or a right-back. The player displayed remarkable long passing and crossing ability during his time with the Blaugranas, but was lacking defensively.
Now, he is expected to play as a full-back at his new club. And at 23, he has a chance to revitalise his career with regular playing time potentially on the cards.
After Oscar Mingueza, Barcelona are planning to offload another one of their youngsters. They are in talks with LA Galaxy over the transfer of Riqui Puig, and could reach a final agreement over the deal very soon.
A decision on Frenkie de Jong’s future also remains to be made with Manchester United and Chelsea interested in signing him.
