Orkun Kokcu has spoken about over his time at Benfica this far, with the midfielder displeased about his role at the Portuguese club this far. He made the move from Feyenoord this past summer after playing a key role in helping them win the Eredivisie title, ending Ajax’s streak.
But things haven’t turned out the way he would like them to, and he has now made his feelings known to the public in an interview with Telegraaf.
Orkun Kokcu speaks out over unfulfilled Benfica promise
“I chose Benfica thinking that it was the best option for my career… but from the beginning, they never made me feel important”.
“Maybe I’ve been too modest so far regarding the role I was given”, told Telegraaf.
“My situation here at Benfica is not what I expected”. “Roger Schmidt told me that I would have a role similar to the one I had at Feyenoord, where I defined the passing circuits, where I could always go forward… and this is not happening”, told Telegraaf.
In 19 league games, the Turkish midfielder has scored three goals and seven assists, which is not a bad return by any means. But the player has shown that he is not satisfied with the way things are, and wants to be given a more prominent role.
If things don’t change by the end of the season, Orkun Kokcu could be on the move, in spite of joining the Lisbon side only a year ago.
