Opta’s list of the best football clubs in the world consists of more than 13,000 entries, ranking well known and obscure teams in the same list. The statistics company uses a complex algorithm to determine the scores for clubs, and updates them every day from Monday through Friday.

As per the latest update, Manchester City are at the top of the table, with the Citizens trying to defend their treble. They are currently third in the Premier League table, but have a concrete chance at retaining their title. Moreover, they are also one of the favourites to win the Champions League this season, a title they claimed for the first time last summer.

Here are the top ten teams in the world according to the score given to them by Opta:

  1. Manchester City
  2. Real Madrid
  3. Inter Milan
  4. Liverpool
  5. Arsenal
  6. PSG
  7. Bayern Munich
  8. Bayer Leverkusen
  9. Atletico Madrid
  10. Barcelona

Manchester United are ranked 22nd as per the table, leaving them behind their big six rivals as well as upstarts from other European leagues. In addition, Chelsea have now slumped to 30th in the rankings after their massive fall from grace since their 2021 Champions League win.

Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Sporting CP, Benfica, RB Leipzig and Real Sociedad have all appeared ahead of the Red Devils, in spite of having a fraction of their history of winning or their financial power.
