The rollable phone that OPPO is developing might not be too far off in the future. According to a story that came out not too long ago, the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) has only recently issued OPPO with a patent. The patent papers include some drawings of what appears to be the design of the company’s first rollable smartphone for commercial usage. It is unclear whether or not these schematics accurately represent the final product.

OPPO is not a new brand in the field of rollable display smartphones, which are still in the early stages of their development. In 2021, the company introduced a concept phone called the OPPO X 2021, which featured a screen that could be rolled up. The photos from the patent appear to be very similar to the rollable display phone from X 2021.

The photos from the patent suggest that the display of OPPO’s rollable smartphone may be fitted with a camera that is hidden behind the screen, allowing users to take selfies and participate in video conversations with ease. It looks like any other smartphone when viewed from the front of the device.

On the back side of the panel are the camera module and the LED flash are located. On its right side is where you’ll find both the volume rocker and the power button. On the underside of the device is a speaker as well as a connection that can accept data via USB Type-C. It appears that the rollable phone’s back panel incorporates not one, but two cameras in addition to an LED flash.

One of the images demonstrates how the user’s screen can roll out from the right side of the device, providing them with more room to work with. To refresh your memory, the screen space available on the OPPO X 2021 concept phone was 6.7 inches, but when the display was finally released, it gave 7.4 inches of screen space instead. It seems as though the piece of hardware seen in the patent images would be able to be outfitted with a specialized button that can either roll out or retract the screen.

According to the documentation for the patent, OPPO submitted an application to CNIPA for a patent on this gadget in 2021. On the 14th of April in 2023, the business was, nonetheless, awarded the patent for the aforementioned design.
