Erling Haaland’s release clause of €75 million will become valid in 2022, and as a result, he will become the most in-demand player next year. The Borussia Dortmund star has already been courted by several top clubs in the continent but has decided to continue his stay at the Westfalenstadion until 2022.
Chelsea were in the race for the Norwegian striker this summer and made a bid worth £130 million for the player. However, Dortmund were rigid in their stance that Haaland wasn’t for sale this summer. They had already parted ways with Jadon Sancho this summer, with the Englishman returning to Manchester in an €85 million transfer.
However, the presence of the release clause means that Haaland will almost surely change clubs next year. According to BILD, only four clubs in the world will be able to afford Haaland next summer. Those four clubs are Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid and PSG.
While €75 million is not an outrageous amount in the modern transfer window, the fee must be paid in one instalment. In addition, Mino Raiola, Haaland’s agent, will also demand a large fee for himself. As a result, the number of clubs that could complete the transfer narrows down. And according to BILD, only these four clubs have a real chance at landing the 21-year-old sensation.
Real Madrid have already laid out plans to recruit Mbappe and Haaland next summer. With the Frenchman potentially joining as a free agent, and Madrid refraining from any major deals in the last three windows, they could be the ones to snap up the Dortmund star when he becomes available next year.
