OnePlus Pad to Receive ‘Open Canvas’ Feature from OnePlus Open

OnePlus introduced its inaugural foldable device, the OnePlus Open, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, last month. This book-style foldable smartphone made its debut with a novel feature known as “Open Canvas,” designed to facilitate split-screen multitasking on the foldable device. Open Canvas allows users to manage multiple applications simultaneously, offering the choice between full-screen or compact viewing modes, all facilitated through simple gestures. Now, OnePlus is extending this functionality to its first-ever tablet, the OnePlus Pad, with the aim of enhancing multitasking on the Pad’s generous 11.61-inch screen.

In a recent Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, OnePlus confirmed its intention to bring the Open Canvas feature to the OnePlus Pad. While no specific release date was disclosed, the company stated, “We’ve received numerous requests to add the remarkably intuitive Open Canvas to the OnePlus Pad, and good news — we’re working on it! Keep an eye out for updates.” This development is particularly significant for the OnePlus Pad, given its spacious 11.61-inch display, which will allow users to engage with multiple apps concurrently.

The Open Canvas feature originally made its debut on the OnePlus Open and enables users to perform multi-window operations, enabling the display of up to three windows simultaneously. Users have the flexibility to extend split-screen apps beyond the confines of the display, with apps that can be moved, swiped, and resized for maximum multitasking efficiency. OnePlus Open made its debut in October with a price tag of ₹1,39,999 for the sole configuration featuring 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

In terms of specifications, the device runs on OxygenOS 13.2, based on Android 13, and boasts a 7.82-inch 2K Flexi-fluid LTPO 3.0 AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,268×2,440 pixels. It also features a 6.31-inch 2K LTPO 3.0 Super Fluid AMOLED cover display with a resolution of 1,116×2,484 pixels. The OnePlus Open is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, complemented by an Adreno 740 GPU, and is paired with 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM.

On the camera front, the OnePlus Open boasts a Hasselblad-branded triple camera setup, consisting of a 48-megapixel primary camera, a 64-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. Additionally, it features a 20-megapixel primary selfie camera and a 32-megapixel secondary camera on the outer screen. The device comes equipped with 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage and houses a dual-cell 4,800mAh battery with support for 67W SuperVOOC charging.
