In a rather shocking decision, Manchester United have appointed Omar Berrada from Manchester City as their new chief executive officer. He will replace Richard Arnold, who left the club before the INEOS takeover led by Jim Ratcliffe, which now owns 25% of the club alongside the Glazers.
Berrada’s appointment has been backed by both INEOS and the Glazers, and will see the former City and Barcelona executive take control of matters on and off the pitch. However, an official start date has not been confirmed by the club as of yet.
Omar Berrada joins Manchester United from City
Originally, Berrada joined as the Director of Marketing for City Football Group as a whole from Barcelona in 2011. He oversaw both Manchester City and the portfolio of clubs the club owns across the world as part of the profile.
And after elevating the Sky Blues to the best club in the Premier League, as well as Europe, he is now moving to their rivals to take up a new challenge. As per the official statement from United, Omar Berrada’s arrival is the first step in ensuring that they get back to title winning success in the coming years.
INEOS promised changes to the club once their deal went through. And now, we are seeing realistic signs that they truly want to get the club back to their best. Having a strong, experienced leader at the helm will provide them something that they have been missing for a long time.
