Greek side Olympiacos are keeping tabs on former Aston Villa and Rangers manager Steven Gerrard as an option for their managerial position. The club has parted ways with three managers this season and is now looking for another man to take charge of the first team.
Gerrard has been out of a job since October 2022, when he was sacked by Aston Villa. His time in charge of the Midlands club was quite disappointing, with the team headed toward the relegation zone when they brought in Unai Emery.
Steven Gerrard linked with Olympiacos job
The Liverpool icon has a great relationship with Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis, who also owns the Premier League club, Nottingham Forest. As a result, a partnership between the two could materialize soon. But, no advanced negotiations have taken place just yet.
Moreover, Steven Gerrard isn’t the only man on the shortlist as things stand. Former Napoli and Valencia manager Gennaro Gattuso is also being considered as an option. In addition, Esteban Cambiasso and Al-Ain manager Serhiy Rebrov have also been shortlisted. Former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch is also being considered.
Gerrard could gain Champions League experience with the Greek side if he takes up the role. They are currently only six points from the top spot in the league, which is occupied by Panathinaikos, followed by Athens, who is also six points ahead.
