The forward’s new deal runs until 2028, tying him down for the foreseeable future at a time when the club is fighting for a realistic opportunity for European football.
Head coach Unai Emery and Villa’s new sporting director Monchi were both crucial in the player deciding to stay at Aston Villa. He has scored 50 goals across all competitions so far for the club, while 15 of them came in the Premier League last year.
Watkins had a slow start to the Premier League season but has bounced back strongly, also earning a call-up to the England national team for the upcoming break. So far, he has scored four goals and provided three assists in the league while having a hat-trick against Hibernian FC in the Europa Conference League qualifiers as well.Â
