LAFC has finalized a deal with French striker Olivier Giroud on a free transfer. The move is planned for this summer after Giroud’s tenure at AC Milan ends. His arrival at LAFC is scheduled post-Euro 2024, with the MLS transfer window opening on July 18. The contract will keep Giroud at LAFC until the 2025 MLS season, and since LAFC holds his MLS discovery rights, they get signing precedence over other MLS teams.

At 37, Giroud not only leads as France’s top scorer but is also an active national team member, having just completed duty in a friendly against Germany. His current season with AC Milan shows impressive stats of 12 goals and eight assists across 26 Serie A matches, contributing to Milan’s second-place standing and their advancement to the Europa League quarterfinals against AS Roma.

With Giroud’s addition, LAFC aims to bolster its offensive lineup, pairing him with MLS Golden Boot holder Denis Bouanga and Uruguayan international Cristian Olivera. This move comes as the team looks to build on its strong start to the season, highlighted by a recent 5-0 victory over Nashville SC.

Since transferring to Milan from Chelsea in the summer of 2021, Giroud has played a pivotal role in Milan’s achievements, including a Serie A title in his debut season, tallying 46 goals during his tenure in Italy.

He follows the likes of Gareth Bale, Giorgio Chiellini and Hugo Lloris to join LAFC after leaving Europe. Olivier Giroud has earned himself a reputation for being one of the most underrated strikers in the world, as well a history of scoring breathtaking goals. And now, he is set to embark on his final chapter away from the pressure of European football.
